Okiagari-koboushi (getting-up little priest) are traditional dolls made with papier-mâché and designed like a roly-poly toy, they always return to an upright position! Like Daruma dolls, they are linked to the japanese proverb "Nanakoribi Yaoki" which means : 7 times down, 8 times up. Thereby they are a symbol of perseverance and resilience!
The tradition in Japan is to have one Okiagari Koboshi for each member of the family and one more to show the hope that it will grow.
