Pretty laquered chopsticks decorated with some plum tree flowers. Umezono means plum tree garden. Liked as much as its sping cousin, Sakura, the plum tree has a festival called Ume Matsuri. Ume (plum tree flowers) blossom between mid-February and the beginning of March. Its blooming period occuring before the snow melting, Ume are seen as a sign of bravery and renewal. They also are viewed as the symbol of calligrapher and poets.

Japanese urushi lacquer is made from the sap of the urushi tree, a tradition dating back to the Jomon period (6000BC).
Laquered objects (Shikki) are sensitive to a direct exposure to sunlight. These products cannot be used in microwaves and cannot be washed in dishwasher. Urushi products should be quickly dried  after washing.
