Inspired by the tiles and gargoyles found on typical Japanese buildings, this demon mask is used as a talisman to ward off evil spirits. Onigawara (oni tile) are decorative tiles found at the ends of temple roofs, representing oni, mythological beings regularly taking the form of demons or ogres.

This mask, from the Kawara Museum near Lake Biwa (Mount Fuji), was made using the same techniques as these emblematic Japanese tiles, and incorporates their strong symbolism as well.

This unique object can be used as a simple decoration in your home or can be hung, thanks to the small cord, on your front doors to keep watch and protect your home from evil.
