This large shaped vase is covered by Japanese traditional urushi lacquer which is the best of all lacquers.
The technique used to apply the lacquer allows to see the natural wood ribs of the zelkova which is renowned for its beauty. This nice round object has its middle part is nicely carved.
Note that urushi lacquered objects are sensitive to a direct exposure to sunlight.
