Japanese Ceramics

Japanese ceramics is a very ancient traditional art. Indeed, archaeologists have found on the Japanese territory some pottery dating from the Neolithic period (11,000 BC).
It is therefore one of the oldest art forms in the world.
Over the centuries some localities such as Tokoname, Mino or Yokkaichi became specialized in ceramics. Each region has developed its own styles that can be very different from one place to another.
Even today a big part of the economy of these cities still depends on this activity...

A part of the production is traditional (tea sets, bowls, vases, statues...) and an other one is industrial (pipes, components for the electronics industry...). These cities are well known worldwide for their productions and attract many tourists every year.
Some have retained their old ovens and workshops where the ceramics were produced. There are also museums and many small independent shops.
Obviously all ceramics offered on this site are produced in Japan.
